1991
In the small mountain village of Arosa, Bettina and Peter Ambühl laid the foundation for MEDiDOR company’s history. Inspired by the philosophy and effectiveness of the SISSEL brand, which they discovered during their travels to Sweden, the couple decided to introduce the medical neck support pillow to Switzerland. The name MEDiDOR combines “MEDi” for and “DOR” from the French “dormir”—a reference to the neck pillow, which remains one of the company’s core products to this day.
1993–1998
Demand for the SISSEL grew so rapidly that the Arosa facility became too small. With the move to Aesch, Zurich, in 1993, the company was converted from a limited liability company to a corporation. At the same time, MEDiDOR expanded its product range beyond sleep products to include solutions for , well-being, and medical practice equipment. By 1998, a comprehensive range of products for in therapy, rehabilitation, and medicine has been established. As a result, MEDiDOR evolves from a specialist provider for into a versatile partner in the healthcare sector.
2002–2004
By integrating into the international SISSEL, MEDiDOR is further expanding its sales activities. The launch of the online store marks an important step toward digitalization and opens up new sales opportunities for both for and private customers.
2010–2013
The MEDiDOR Academy will be launched in the summer of 2010. The Academy’s goal is to offer courses taught by experts for . Through practical continuing education, MEDiDOR supports healthcare professionals in deepening their knowledge and integrating new treatment methods into their daily practice. In doing so, MEDiDOR expands its offerings beyond products and creates a platform for professional for and continuing education in the healthcare sector.
2018
In 2018, thesissel storesissel will be repositioned as a platform for , while medidor.ch will launch a new look for . At the same time, pilates.ch will be launched as a specialized online store where Pilates and fitness professionals can purchase a comprehensive range of fitness, Pilates, and training equipment.
2020
In 2020, Bettina and Peter Ambühl handed over MEDiDOR to the Competec Handelsgruppe. The group’s expertise in logistics and e-commerce has opened up new opportunities for growth. In 2021, the company relocated to Mägenwil and Willisau and relaunched its online stores, medidor.ch and sissel.ch. Following the successful integration, the sales structure is being further developed, and the product range is being expanded to include products for entire practice operation.
2024
In 2024, the Competec Group decides to sell the company again. The sale is driven by the significant differences in brand management, regulations, pricing structures, and the expertise required by MEDiDOR compared to Competec’s core business. A specialized provider in the healthcare sector is in a much better position to fully realize MEDiDOR’s potential. A private investor group, led by former Competec CEO Martin Lorenz, acquires Medidor AG. Operational responsibility is assumed by Martin Lorenz, Daniel Steiner, and Robert Studer (from left to right) together with the existing MEDiDOR team. This step enables MEDiDOR to refocus fully on its core business and continue to expand it.
2025
With the opening of its new showroom at the Swiss Life Arena in Zurich, MEDiDOR has created a space where products and solutions can be experienced firsthand. In collaboration with Physio REHA-4-HEALTH, a modern presentation and consultation area has been created where customers can test and compare therapy tables, Pilates equipment, and other products on-site. The showroom enhances personalized consultation and offers professionals in the fields of therapy, rehabilitation, and exercise an inspiring meeting place for and innovation.
2025–present
With the launch of SISSEL.CH and PILATES.CH, MEDiDOR is expanding its digital presence and reaching new target groups in the consumer market. While SISSEL.CH offers high-quality health, ergonomics, and fitness products for , PILATES.CH focuses on top-of-the-line Pilates equipment and accessories. With these two new online stores, MEDiDOR is strengthening its position as a specialized provider in the health and fitness sector and creating an even more tailored shopping experience for .
