St. John's wort needs sun to develop its inner powers. It is therefore only harvested wild after the solstice. The herb then matures for weeks in a special grain germ oil mixture in the Bergell sun until the active ingredients dissolve and turn the oil blood red. Even in ancient times, people knew how to use its powers for the care of dry, cracked and irritated skin, including sunburn. It warms as if it had captured the power of the Bergell sun for the winter. Skin treated with St. John's oil must not be exposed to the sun.
