The Rydel-Seiffer tuning fork is a proven instrument in neurological examinations for testing hearing and, in particular, vibration sensation. It enables a standardized recording of sensitivity by using it on bone protrusions. As a rule, a frequency of 128 Hz is used, as it is particularly suitable for the perception of vibrations in everyday clinical practice. However, 64 Hz can also be used depending on the objective of the examination. The Rydel-Seiffer baseline tuning fork weighs around 136 g and its design allows reliable and reproducible assessment of sensory functions.
