Choosing the right equipment supplier, closely involving the team, and fostering a long-term partnership are key factors for success in elite sports. But how do such partnerships develop, and how important is the quality of products in day-to-day medical practice?
In a conversation with Roger Gemperle, CMO and member of the ZSC Lions’ executive board, we gain insights into the strategic considerations behind the choice of equipment supplier, the importance of feedback from the team, and the future development of the partnership.
Roger: “Choosing the right equipment supplier in the medical field involves different criteria than traditional partnerships in sports. While price or compensation often play an important role, performance is clearly the top priority for the medical team. The decision is therefore made deliberately from the perspective of day-to-day work. It’s about which products and solutions truly work in everyday situations and provide the best possible support for players.”
In our case, we were generally satisfied with our previous partner. Nevertheless, the medical team recognized the need to re-evaluate the existing solution. It became clear that Medidor could meet our requirements even better in certain areas. Based on this, we decided to initiate discussions with Medidor and re-evaluate the partnership. Ultimately, the deciding factor was that the quality and practicality of the products were a perfect fit for our needs. This led to a collaboration that focuses not on economic aspects, but on providing the best possible support for medical team—and thus for players.
Roger: “Feedback from players and physical therapists plays a central role in the selection and further development of equipment. Even though the final decision rests with the medical team, it is always based on the players’ experiences and needs. The medical team is very familiar with the products used and has a comprehensive overview of the existing portfolio. At the same time, they are in close, daily contact with the players and therefore know exactly what the day-to-day requirements are. It quickly becomes clear what works well, where there is room for improvement, and which solutions stand out compared to the competition.”
In this context, the medical team plays a key mediating role. It gathers feedback from the players, evaluates it from a professional standpoint, and incorporates it into the decision-making process in a structured manner. In doing so, it acts as the team’s voice and ensures that the players’ actual needs are taken into account. This creates a solid foundation for decision-making, optimally combining practical experience, medical expertise, and player feedback.
Roger: “Our partnership with Medidor is now in its second year and has already developed very positively. Both the quality of the products and the overall collaboration are viewed as highly professional and reliable. In addition to the actual supply of products, the partnership aspect also plays an important role. This includes, for example, the joint development of solutions, but also external visibility, such as through communication and PR activities. This holistic collaboration makes the partnership particularly valuable.”
Our experience so far gives us good reason to be optimistic. Our goal is to continue this collaboration in the long term and to build on it together. The focus is on continuing to leverage existing synergies and continuously developing new approaches that provide the best possible support for both the medical team and the players. Looking ahead, one thing is therefore paramount: a sustainable partnership that will endure for many years to come and continue to evolve.
The interview dates back to 2025 and was conducted as part of our partnership with the ZSC.
