As an experienced ZSC Lions player, Yannik Weber knows exactly what is important in top-class sport. In an interview with MEDiDOR, he talks about the importance of regeneration, working with physiotherapists and what motivates him to give his best on the ice day for .

Importance of equipment: What does good equipment mean for you personally? Are there parts of the equipment that are particularly important or that you value?

Yannick: "Of course, skates and sticks are our most important tools, nothing works on the ice without them. They really make the difference in the game. But nowadays, the right protective equipment is also particularly important, especially because the game is so fast and hectic."

Training and support: How does the physio team help you with preparation and regeneration? Are there any special routines that are important for you?

Yannick: "We don't have a set routine. But of course, the season is long in our job and there are always injuries that we pick up along the way. for me for it's particularly important to perform at my best with a healthy body. The older you get, the more important regeneration becomes. They are the experts for both minor and major injuries and know exactly how to get back on track. Over the years, you really realize how much you need them."

Season goal and motivation: What are your personal goals for this season? Is there a particular game that you are particularly looking forward to?

Yannick: "The goal is actually always the same: we play team sport, we want to win every game and ultimately win the championship. Of course, there's a lot behind it and everything has to fit together, but the goal must always be to become champions in the end - every player will say that. I think that goal is realistic at ZSC and it's a privilege to be in a place where you can say that openly. Of course, it takes more than just willpower - the team, the coaches and the teamwork play a huge role."

Challenges on the ice: How do you deal with injuries? Is there any special mental or physical preparation that you use to be in top form?

Yannick: "You have to be realistic in field hockey: injuries are simply part of the game. Sure, you can do a lot for prevention, especially in the summer preparation, both physically and mentally, to be fit for the season. But sometimes things happen that are beyond your control. There have been many injuries in my career, both minor and major. Of course, you don't like to think about it when you're injured. You're away from the game and away from the team. But that's when you realize how important a good environment is: the physio team and the coach know exactly what the way back looks like. You do everything you can to get back on the ice quickly and return to top form. It's reassuring to know that you have the best people around you to support you so that you can play again as quickly as possible."

Working with the team: What does teamwork mean for you in field hockey and what role does trust in the equipment and the people who provide it play?

Yannick: "Sure, you always have to have confidence in the products you use. You have to know that they are reliable, and protection is extremely important in ice hockey in particular. The game has developed a lot in the last 10 to 20 years and manufacturers have also evolved in parallel. This means we don't play with equipment that doesn't meet the highest safety standards, but the companies are always one step ahead when it comes to protection, quality and fit."
