Neuromuscular electrical stimulation with VitalStim Plus activates and trains the muscles involved in the swallowing process. Under the guidance of a therapist (e.g. speech therapist, physiotherapist, doctor), the patient performs interactive exercises that strengthen the muscles and thus contribute to regaining the ability to swallow. The sEMG biofeedback leads to greater effort when swallowing and longer duration of swallowing attempts and improves coordination. In addition, biofeedback enables an objective assessment of swallowing function and patterns. Live images on a PC monitor or tablet show the treatment process. With the help of screen mirroring technology, the therapist can guide the patient through specific swallowing exercises.
